Doktorandenseminar 2026

Thema: Talking About Faith in an Academic Context – Challenge or Privilege?

Ort: Gnadenthal

Doktoranden Tagungen Akademiker-SMD

As Christians, we have the privilege of sharing the Gospel with the people around us. For PhD students, the research group, the institute, and the academia in general form an important environment. At the same time, it often seems particularly difficult to talk about faith in an academic context.

At the PhD seminar, we will reflect on and discuss how we can build bridges between our research and the Gospel so that we can enter into naturally conversations about faith - with fellow PhD students, undergraduates, and perhaps even professors.

Martin Herdegen has been thinking about this topic since his own PhD. Through talks, discussions, and an interactive workshop, he will introduce us to a theological model that highlights points of connection between the Gospel and academia. Using mathematics as an example, he will illustrate how one can point to Christ starting from one’s own field of research.

Alongside this, there will be plenty of space for exchange and networking, opportunities for reflection, and moments to bring personal questions before others and before God.

Are you pursuing a PhD or considering starting one? Then the PhD seminar is exactly the right place for you! Partners of PhD students are also warmly invited.
